North Qld to get clean coal base load power station

The MP for the north Queensland seat of Thuringowa and Natural Resources Minister says north Queensland has been earmarked for a clean coal base load power station.

Craig Wallace says the State Governments new $400 million climate change policy, unveiled by the Premier yesterday, includes provision for clean coal technology with a focus on the north.

Mr Wallace says the power station should be up and running by 2012, most likely in Collinsville, north-west of Mackay.

"We've got water supplies for Collinsville, we've got a coal reserve and they would be an ideal location to feed into our power grid across the north, but that's a decision we'll make into the future," he said.
