Central African Mining & Exploration Company Plc (LSE: CFM - News), the AIM listed fully integrated exploration, mining, trading and investment company, has successfully commissioned the second 10,000 tonnes per annum copper EW module at the Luita copper cobalt SX/EW plant facility in the Democratic Republic of the Congo ('DRC'). From June 2007 the plant will be producing circa 1,600 tonnes of copper cathode per month. Development of the third copper EW module is on schedule and expected to come on stream at the end of July 2007, which will take monthly production of copper cathode to 2,400 tonnes. The plant is on target to produce 40,000 tonnes in the financial year 2007-8.
CAMEC Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Groves, said, "The modular plant is allowing us to rapidly scale up copper cathode production. We are a low cost producer that is benefiting from the high price of copper by being in production now."
