Mining expo kicks off; Trade show opens today at noon

The Exhibition Centre in Sudbury will open its doors to the biggest mining trade show in Canada at noon today.

The Canadian Mining and Industrial Expo 2007 showcases the latest in mining equipment, technology and services.

The expo will host more than 110 booths, featuring thousands of new products and services from companies across North America.

Companies from as far away as China, Africa and Peru also made the trip to show off their new equipment.

"We expect about 1,500 decision makers out over the two days," said Darren Ceccarelli, marketing director for DAC Marketing Ltd., the company behind the expo.

Since it began in 1996, the annual trade show has grown steadily, he said, to the point organizers can't accommodate every company that wants to be involved.

"It's the biggest one yet," he said.

"We've got a waiting list of probably 50 companies that want to get in here. Double the space, that's what we need."

The show will feature products and services for both surface and underground work. If it's related to the mining business, it will be at the show, Ceccarelli said.

The show runs from noon until 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday. John E. Lightfoot Jr./The Sudbury Star
